Content – Year 2
The content of the Computing curriculum for Key Stage 1 has been divided into three different strands.

|Information Technology||To use technology purposeful to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content;To understand how data is represented and managed on computers.|
|Digital Literacy||To recognise common uses of information technology beyond school;To understand digital information and interact with it safely and appropriately;
To identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns about content or contact on the internet.
These strands are not taught in isolation, but taught throughout the year, as appropriate, and in a cross-curricular way to develop the key skills. These strands are broken down further into:

|Multimedia and Word Processing||Combine text and images and possibly other features to create either a printable document or a simple multimedia presentation. Ensure all choices suit the purpose.|
|Graphics||Use a range of tools in a paint package to create a picture to suit a purpose.|
|Digital Video||Use a digital camcorder and camera; download with support and use for a purpose.|
|Communication Collaboration and Publishing||Share and comment on work online, developing understanding about appropriate behaviour and internet safety.|
|Music and Sound||Select and record music, sound effects and voice-overs to combine with other media.|
|Handling Data||Use a graphing package and a simple database to collect, organise and classify data, asking and answering questions.|
|Research||Use websites to find information and answer questions.|
|Modelling||Answer “what if” questions using a simulation, exploring different options and explaining what happened and why.|
|Algorithms, Programming and Control||Understand that an algorithm is a process that consists of a series of steps. Use digital drawing tools to create images. Program a simple animation involving movement. Write a simple program that produces an output (text). Combine images and text to create simple animation. Predict, estimate and create a set of instructions to control a floor robot.|
E-Safety is an integral part of the Computing curriculum in order to keep children safe and equip them with the knowledge and awareness of potential issues as their use of online facilities evolves. E-safety is taught and reinforced throughout the children’s ICT education at a level appropriate to their age, development and the online resources being accessed and used.
The E-Safety objectives from Year 1 continue to be reinforced throughout Year 2. In addition, children will cover the following objectives:
- To develop an awareness of e-safety issues and understand that personal information is unique to them.
- To know the difference between communicating via email and online in a discussion forum.
- To use the internet purposefully to answer specific questions.
- To know that not everything they encounter on the internet is true.
